Veterans Expo Coming In November

Cookeville’s Leslie Town Center is set to host the Upper Cumberland Veterans’ Career and Resource Expo on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. To 2 p.m.

One of the partners hosting is the American Job Center in Cookeville. Jimmie Simpson is the center’s Local Veteran’s Employment Representative.

For employers, the biggest challenge is connecting with veteran candidates, especially during the times we find ourselves,” Simpson said. “This event will provide an opportunity to connect directly with military veterans. We hope that employers capitalize by being prepared to interview and hire onsite.”

According to Simpson, it is sometimes difficult finding meaningful jobs for veterans.

Interestingly, one of the biggest issues for the veteran is locating employers that really understand the wealth of benefits that veterans bring to the workplace” Simpson said. “Our battle-proven leadership, crisis and time management, motivation, and ability to quickly learn new processes can significantly improve productivity, quality of services and products, and overall bottom line of companies that capitalize on what we can bring to the table.”

Outside of helping veterans find jobs, there will be other resources available, as well. Life Church will be providing haircuts, medical screenings, food, etc. through their DUO Missions trucks.

The Mobile American Job Center will be present to assist with any employment service needs including updating resumes and applying for open positions online.
