Christine Capps, 96, of Cookeville, formerly of Celina, passed away April 23 in Cookeville. Funeral services were held April 25 in the chapel of The Upton-Hay Funeral Home with Ken Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Williams Cemetery. Family and friends served as pallbearers.
She was born July 20, 1924 on Pea Ridge, a community of Clay County. She spent most of her adult life working in a factory, Osh Gosh, as well as providing care for her family and home. She enjoyed gardening and quilting.
She was preceded in death by: parents, Bedford and Laura (Daniels) Roach; husband, Ben Capps; daughter, Virginia Smith; and granddaughter, Deborah Smith.
Surviving relatives include: sons, James Capps and Mitchell (Phyllis) Capps; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends and neighbors.
Wayne Smith, 71, of Moss, passed away April 23 in Cookeville. Funeral services were held April 27 in the chapel of The Upton-Hay Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Moss Cemetery. Pallbearers were Phillip, William, David, Tony, Matt and Mike.
He was born Feb. 24, 1950 in Celina. He retired from the janitorial services in healthcare, was a collector of all things, loved collecting clocks and was an inventor. He also loved to write songs and poems and enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by: parents, Jim and Christine (Roach) Smith; son, Chris Evans; and brothers, Eddie, Jamie, Thomas and Billy.
Surviving relatives include: spouse, Reba Smith; sons, Steven Smith, Jason (Pamela) Smith and Grady (Melanie) Evans; grandchildren, Jon, Anna, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Courtney, Dustin, Bryce, Joshua, Cameron and Wyatt; brothers, Phillip (Diane) Smith and Bobby (Judy) Smith; and a host of friends and neighbors.
