Elaine Collins, age 70, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 at Baptist Memorial East Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Elaine Collin’s passion for caring and watching over others didn’t come to an end with her death; she was surrounded by her children, who will continue to honor her legacy through compassion and caring for one another, and those in need.
Elaine was born to the late Porter and Estelline Collins, Oct. 8, 1950, in Moss, Tennessee. She graduated from Celina High School in 1968, started a family early, and began journeying through life. As a young mother, she became concretely centered on being a selfless caregiver to her children, and that eventually extended to anyone or anything in need. She always made sure her children had what they needed, even if it meant she had to do without. She raised them to be honest and to do what was right, and hoped for that to be instilled in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her later years, she provided care and assistance for the elderly that needed help or didn’t have anyone. She always rooted for the underdog that needed an advocate in their corner. The drive to care for others over herself extended to pets, animals in nature, etc. If she helped care for a dog or cat, it became part of the family, and was loved like one of her own. She loved feeding the birds outside, and would endure the frigid temperatures to ensure they had something to eat on the coldest of days. She was also a worrier, which in part drove her relentless and selfless care for others; what a gift it is to have someone worrying and watching over you. Elaine enjoyed the simplest pleasures in life – reading, watching TV, collecting recipes, listening to music, caring for others, and spending time with family and talking with them daily.
It is now time for Elaine to receive that same selfless and relentless, but eternal, care from her mighty savoir. Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day; unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear.
Elaine is survived by three sons, Shane Collins (Kris Eads), Jason Collins, and Jerome (Rachel) Collins; three daughters, Kimberly (Rick) Cole, Heather Collins, and Angela (Bart) Cash; six grandchildren, Jessica (Rebecca), Nicholas (Stephanie), Cody, Lauren, Noah and Jacob; five great grandchildren, Keltyn, Braeden, Arrow, Gunner, and Adalyn; three brothers, Comer (Linda) Collins, Domer Collins, and Jerry Collins; three sisters, Elise Lancaster, Buna Likens, Velma (Shelva) Gass; special family members include: Raider, Bella, and Tigger (deceased); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors that will mourn her passing.
Services were held at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home in Celina, Tennessee. Visitation with the family was on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial followed in the Kendall Cemetery in Moss, Tennessee, where Elaine was laid to rest.
The family of Elaine Collins is grateful to all those who have provided thoughts and prayers prior to her passing, and those who will continue to pray for the family and loved ones to have strength in the days ahead.
