Joe Neil Eads

Joe Neil Eads, 82, of Celina, passed away Oct. 17 at Celina Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Oct. 20 at Beech Bethany Church of Christ with Caleb Burnette and Kenny Westmoreland officiating. Interment followed in the Moss Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Ronnie Dale, Kenny Dale, Jeff Eads, Robbie Eads, Michael Eads, Keith McCormick, Blake McCormick and Donnie Graham. Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Qualls and all of the Celina Football Players.

He was born May 13, 1938 in Celina. He had many talents, devoting 32 years to education and 30 of those to coaching football. He enjoyed fishing and hunting but he chose to work over most all things. His favorite pastime was watching football, on the field or on the TV.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Vanus Anderson and Mable Pauline (Cherry) Eads; brothers, Jerry David and Kerry Eads; sister-in-law, Margaret Eads; brother-in-law, Jimmy Dale; and mother-in-law, Josephine Ethridge.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Debbie Eads; sons, Gary Eads and wife Caryl, Jerry G. Eads and Traye Seber; daughters Sherrie Pruitt and Tonya Baijo and husband, Pat; sisters, Ruth Ann Dale, Nancy Eads and Peggy Qualls and husband, Robert; sister-in-laws, Sandra Eads and Connie Graham and husband, Donnie; grandchildren, Lindsay Walker, Tyler (Amber) Walker, Ashley (Caleb) Burnette, Brittany (Grant) Davis, Katie Spivey, Madison, Noah, Salem and Lex Baijo, Gerald and Zoe Seber, Logan Eads and Kassidie Eads; great-grandchildren, Jaid and Eli Walker, Tucker, Abram and Maddie Walker, Eli, Isaiah and Ezekiel Burnette, Nora, Allie and Claire Davis, Tallulah Eads; and a host of friends and neighbors.

Johnnie Sue Butler

Johnnie Sue Butler, 76, of Celina, passed away Oct. 16 at Celina Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home with Ken Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Fitzgerald Cemetery. Friends and family served as active pallbearers.

She was born Jan. 15, 1944 in Celina. She worked in healthcare as a receptionist and for the city of Celina as a meter maid. She enjoyed trout fishing, talked politics with anyone, and loved UT football.

She was preceded in death by: parents, John L. Butler and Jewell (Booney) Roach.

Surviving relatives include: brother, Jimmy Butler and wife, Donna; nephews, Jonathan, Josh and Jacob; and a host of friends and neighbors.

Robert A. Schmitz

Robert A. Schmitz, 88, of Celina, passed away Oct. 8 at his residence. The family has chosen cremation. There are no services planned at this time.

He was born Nov. 25, 1931 in Lemont, Ill. He was a steel worker for many years.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Michael and Mithilda (Gracak) Schmitz; brothers, Carl Schmitz and Michael Schmitz; niece, Sandra Johnson; nephew, Mickey Schmitz; son in law, Dan Wood; and in laws, Sam and Louise Bromberek.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Pearl (Bromberek) Schmitz; daughters, Pat Wood and Diane Frankhauser and husband, Greg; sons, Robert “Bobby” Schmitz Jr. and wife, Laurie and Brian Schmitz and wife, Julie; granddaughters, Sarah, Katie, Kiri, Tanya, Kalie, Taylor and Kenna; grandsons, Kyle and Nick; brother Alfred Schmitz; and host of family and friends.

Willie Van Ashlock

Willie Van Ashlock, 77, of Celina, passed away Oct. 18 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held Oct. 21 from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Celina. Interment followed in the Ashlock Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jay Dyer, Eric Rowland, Darren Butler, Matthew Page, Doyle Thompson and Roy Walker.

He was born March 15, 1943 in Burkesville, Ky. He was a member of the Ashlock Church of Christ and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Domer and Minnie (Thompson) Ashlock; wife, Billie Sue Ashlock; daughter, Lisa Turner; sister, Virginia Strong; and brother, Carl Randell Ashlock.

Surviving relatives include: daughters, Delores Williams, Tonia Butler and Sonia Rowland; son, Willie Christopher Ashlock; grandchildren, Hannah Williams, Haven Page, Houston Williams, Ellie Butler, Tahlie Butler, Jed Turner, Noah Rowland and Erika Rowland; and great granddaughter, Savannah Page.

Martha Ann Strong

Martha Ann Strong, 86, of Celina, passed away Oct. 17 at Celina Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Oct. 19 at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home with Willie Kerr officiating. Interment followed in the Grover C. Rich Cemetery. Friends and family served as active pallbearers.

She was born April 3, 1934 in Clay County. She was at factory worker for Osh Gosh and went on to stay home, performing a much harder job, being a homemaker. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Grover C. Rich and Celia (Arms) Rich; husband, James M. Strong; daughter, Freda King; grandson, Jason Cunningham; sister, Betty Ashlock; and brother Waymon Rich.

Surviving relatives include: sons, James Ronald Strong and wife, Cindy, Donald Ray Strong and wife, Patsy, and Ricky E. Strong and wife, Connie Ann; brother, James (Ted) Rich; sisters, Daisy Key and Jewel Pennington; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends and neighbors.

Mary Short

Mary Short, 69, of Celina, passed away Oct. 22 at her residence. Funeral services were held Oct. 24 from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Celina with Bro. Lucian Finch officiating. Interment followed in the Moss Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brandon, Austin, Caleb, Justin, Kelly and Ethan.

She was born April 9, 1951 in Tompkinsville, Ky. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Elmer Ray and Ora Lee (Moss) Key; husband, Edward Short; sisters, Tammy Jones, Brenda Spears, Margie Crawford and Linda Key; and Jay Key and Russell Key.

Frederick Lloyd Washburn

Frederick Lloyd Washburn, 75, of Celina, passed away Oct. 9 at Vanderbilt Hospital. Fred was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and grew up in Shinglehouse, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Gertrude (Soules) and brother Roy Washburn.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Diana; daughters, Elissa Washburn and Tena Wright; granddaughters, Bethany and Briana Wright; sisters, Sharon Kottwitz, Karen Brewer (Barry), all of Coudersport, PA, Cindy Cutler (Herb) of Coker, AL and Sandy Martin (Tom) of South Bend, IN. There are many nieces, nephews and friends.

Fred was a Vietnam veteran and served in the U.S. Navy for nine years. He graduated from University of South Florida and worked many years as an electrical engineer and then as a real estate broker. In his down time, Fred enjoyed working with his hands, remodeling old houses and woodworking. He and Diana retired to their farm in Tennessee where he most recently spent his days on his tractor building a golf course on the farm. He was a voracious reader and also spent his down time kayaking and playing golf.

He will be missed by many and details on a celebration of life gathering will follow soon.

P J Anderson

P J Anderson, 83 of the Timothy Community, passed away Oct. 21 at the Livingston Regional Hospital. Graveside services were held Oct. 23 at the Thompson-Webb Cemetery in the Pea Ridge Community with Bro. Dale Reagan and Bro. Jerry Anderson officiating. Pallbearers were Kenny Arms, Radford Tidwell and Will Spillers.

He was born July 24, 1937 in Celina. He worked at the sawmill for many years and loved to tell jokes and pick at his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by: parents, George and Ruth Anderson; and wife, Maxine Odean Anderson.

Surviving relatives include: step daughters, Charmia McLearran and Geraldine Carter; step-sons, Kenny Arms, Willard Arms, Joe Arms and Radford Tidwell; and a host of family and friends.

Robert Martin Qualls

Mr. Robert Martin Qualls (Bob), age 70, of Winneconne, WI, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in his home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Celina, TN; on April 3, 1950, son of the late Edward and Sidie Jewel (Parsons) Qualls. Bob married Peggy Eads on June 10, 1970.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Peggy; his two children, daughter, Stephanie Qualls; and son Nathan (Theresa) Qualls; his two grandchildren: Anna and Oliver Qualls; and extended family and friends that will mourn his passing.

Due to ongoing public health concerns the family will be holding a private memorial service. Bob will be laid to rest at the Fitzgerald Cemetery in Celina, TN. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating to fund cancer research through the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.

Bob’s family is thankful for the care provided by ThedaCare At Home hospice, the medical team at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center in Rochester, MN, and Westgor Funeral Home, Neenah.

Bob was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
