Billy E. Smith

Billy E. Smith, 74, of Indianapolis passed away Aug. 14. Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, Ind. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

He was born in Celina. He worked for Stuart’s Moving and Storage for 30 years. He was the most loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by parents, Wesley and Ora Smith; and brother Bobby Smith.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Nelda Smith; children, Wesley Smith, Paul (Jennifer) Riggs, Jimmy Riggs and Clint (Jessie) Riggs; grandchildren, Brian, Kyle, Bethany, Destiny, Nick, Austin and Brittney Riggs; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Dallas, Rayne, Makinzee, Alexis, Braylee, Isaiah and Mashayla; sister, Brenda Chambers; brother, Benny Smith; and nephews, Mike and Bruce Phillips and Carl Smith.

Kyle Jackson Cherry

Kyle Jackson Cherry, of Wasilla, Ark. passed away Aug. 5 at Mat-Su Hospital.

He was born Aug. 24, 1941 in Celina. He was valedictorian of his Celina High School class. Graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt with a degree in civil engineering and worked of the Corps of Engineers tasked with building Cordell Hull Dam. After leaving the Corps he taught high school at Hermitage Springs High School before going back to Vanderbilt and earning a masters degree in environmental engineering. He worked in Alaska as on inspector and for the Alaska Parks Department. He was a Scout master for over 15 years. He had a prison ministry wherein he taught several inmates the skills necessary to become water treatment plant operators.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ray Kenneth and Mary Elizabeth Kyle Cherry.

Surviving relatives include: brothers, Kenneth (Linda) Cherry of Nolensville and William (Becky) Cherry of Bloomington, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

Upton-Hay Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Norma Jean Robinson Hawkins

Norma Jean Robinson Hawkins, 77, of Gainesboro passed away Aug. 13 at Mabry Health and Rehab. Funeral services were held Aug. 16 at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home with Noel Cherry officiating. Interment followed in the Brown Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: David Hutchins, Olivia Hutchens, Steve Holt, Todd Lynn, Patrick Stone and Steve Cherry.

She was born Dec. 19, 1941 in Celina. She had a beautiful smile that she shared freely. She was a member of the Arcot Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by parents: James and Maude (Brown) Robinson; brother, Norman Lester Robinson; and nephew, Dr. James Scott Robinson.

Surviving relatives include: brother, James Edward and wife Annabelle Robinson, of Lebanon; niece, Robbie Robinson Hutchens and husband, David Hutchens of Smyrna; a great niece and nephew, Emory and Oliver Hutchens of Smyrna; and a numerous cousins and one special cousin, Steve Holt.

Landy C. Strong

Landy C. Strong, 67, of Celina passed away Aug. 18 at Celina Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral service were held Aug. 21 at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home with Kenny Westmoreland officiating. Interment followed in the Moss Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Randy Strong, Gary Strong, Mark Strong, Michael Strong, Tracy Strong and Matthew Barlow.

He was born March 22, 1952 in Moss. He had a special way of making those around him smile and feel loved. He attended Moss Elementary and then went on to attend Celina High School. He was a member of the Moss Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by father, Carlos Caye Strong.

Surviving relatives include: mother, Wealtha Strong of Celina ; brothers, Randy Caye Strong and wife, Karen of Carmel, Ind., Gary J. Strong and wife, Cynthia of Cookeville, Mark Strong and wife, Paige of Celina, Michael Strong and wife, Teresa of Moss and Tracy Strong and wife, Tricia of Celina; sisters, Fay Watson and husband, Thomas of Celina, Gaye Strong of Celina and Sherry Barlow and husband, Mike of Celina; nieces and nephews, Andrew Strong and wife, Cassie, Candy Carlyle and husband, Chris, Randi Barksdale, James Thomas Strong, Amber Strong, Marleigh Strong, Caye Strong, Taylor Strong, Grant Strong, Matthew Kyle Barlow and wife, Jessica and Cristi Beasley and husband, Kevin; and many loving great nieces and great nephews, other family and friends.
