It’s time to start putting your phone down while driving in Tennessee with the launch of “Hands Free TN” law as of yesterday, July 1.
It will be illegal to use a cell phone in any way while operating a motor vehicle. If you need to use your cell phone while driving it must be through a hands-free device. The law states that you cannot: hold a cell phone or mobile device with any part of your body, write, send, or read any text-based communication, reach for a cell phone or mobile device in a manner that requires the driver to no longer be in a seated driving position or properly restrained by a seat belt, watch a video or movie on a cell phone or mobile device, record or broadcast video on a cell phone or mobile device.
