Phillip Bruce Watson
Phillip Bruce Watson, 84 of Celina, passed away on July 23 at his residence. Funeral Services were held on July 25 at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home with Ken Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Williams Cemetery. Steve Webb, Evan Watson, Rob Weir, Chris Watson, Jackson Emberton and Eddie Wayne Watson served as active pallbearers.
He was born on May 2, 1934 in Cumberland County, Ky. He was a hard working man who was known by many for his kindness and his fierce love of NASCAR racing. He retired from Richardson Rubber Company. He also served in the United States Army from September 14, 1954 until his Honorable Discharge on August 31, 1962. He was a member of he Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivory Delton and Luzell (Dulworth) Watson; and brother, Eddie Paul Watson.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sue Watson of Indianapolis, Ind.; son, Phillip Watson of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Jim “Crit” Watson and wife, Cathy of Burkesville, Ky.; sisters, Betty Kerr and husband Willie of Celina, Bobbie Masters and husband, Ken of Cookeville and Bonnie Hay and husband, Danny Davis of Celina; grandchild, Evan Bryant Watson; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Peggy Ann Sexton
Peggy Ann Sexton, 69 of Whitleyville, passed away on July 15 at her residence. A memorial visitation was held on July 22 at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1949 in Clay County. She worked as a UCHRA driver.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Oval Asberry; sons, Greg and Chad Sexton and brothers.
Surviving relatives include her sister, Rhonda Mullinix of Oak Grove; brothers, Myron Asberry of Hartsville and Mark Asberry of Whitleyville; grandchildren, Riley, Brett, Trey and Gabriel Sexton, Payton Houchens and Darrian Bell; great grandchild, Korben; and a host of other family and friends.
Betty Lou Short
Betty Lou Short, 89 of Celina, passed away on July 24 at Cumberland River Hospital. Funeral Services were held on July 27 at the Upton-Hay Funeral Home with Ken Miller officiating and James Short offering a poem and a prayer. Interment followed in the Grover C. Rich Cemetery. Bobby Short, Rex Short, Timmy Short, Jimmy Short, Rexell York and Jamie Homes served as active pallbearers.
She was born on Oct. 21, 1928 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was a very hard-working woman who was known for her love of family. She was a homemaker most of her adult life. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex Noah and Mildred Roberta (Kirkheart) Utterback; beloved husband, Clarence Buster Short; son, Johnny Short; brother, Robert Hoffstetter; and sisters, Faye Streetmatter and Maxine Pratt.
Surviving relatives include her sons, Bobby Short and wife, Velma of Red Boiling Springs, Rex Short and wife, Carol of Celina, Timmy Short and wife, DeeDee of Celina and Jimmy Short and wife, Kathy of the Pea Ridge Community of Clay County; daughters, Peggy Davidson and Linda York and husband, Rexell, all of Moss; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other family and friends.
