Clay County drivers using a cell phone in a school zone while the warning lights are flashing could face a fine under a new law that took effect Jan. 1.
This is one of several new laws that could affect local residents in the new year.
A fine of up to $50 can be issued to any driver who uses a cell phone in a school zone while the school’s warning lights are flashing. Texting while driving is already banned in Tennessee and the new law will not change the texting while driving law.
